Did you know London has some very historic old shops that are still open after 225 years ? Come with me on a fun afternoon walk through the hidden West End to explore them ,and take part in the quiz.
Take a trip to the past with a walk through and into some of London’s historic streets and shops. We start with a visit to the Liberty Store, famed for its C19th Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau design , housed in a grand oak beamed building on Great Marlborough Street. Then to Carnaby Street famous throughout the world for fashion and style and music .Saville Row with its history of tailoring and suiting .A stroll through the Burlington Arcade, highly respectable now but with scandalous stories to tell ! A quick dash through Fortnum and Masons “Purveyor of fine comestibles”, and grocer to the King, then onto Jermyn Street and St James, where some shops are over 200 years old: Floris famous for perfume, Berry Bros & Rudd Wine Merchants and and Locke & Co for hats !
We will end the trip in one of London’s smallest squares, supposedly where the last duel took place in the city and see St James’s Palace, where the monarch still receives new ambassadors to the court of St James.
We will meet at Regents University Reception on Wed 21st at 1.30pm and the walk should finish around 4.30pm [ these times are approx depending on buses ,group size , walking speed etc]
